Water Quality & Environmental Monitoring
Water quality: Includes the chemical, physical and biological properties of water and these values are used as indicators of the health of ecosystems.
Environmental monitoring: The processes and activities to characterise and monitor the quality of the environment.
There is no one-system-measures all, and which parameters are measured depends on what measurement program is best suited to a specific project. Point-based measurement systems can be constructed around a particular need, and incorporated into below- or above-water systems. The following parameters can be measured:
Water quality / below water environmental properties:
- Depth (Pressure)
- Temperature
- Salinity (Conductivity)
- Turbidity
- Dissolved oxygen
- pH
- Photosynthetically Active Radiation (PAR)
- etc.
Above water environmental properties:
- Air Pressure
- Air temperature
- Relative Humidity
- Wind speed and direction
- Solar radiation
- Visibility
- Soil water content
